Darwin’s Trails is a socially responsible company, concerned with the sustainable development of Chile and the areas we visit with our clients. With this concept in mind we are proud to present two areas where our involvement in local communities is acknowledged… Darwin’s Trails “Local People Experience”…
The objective of this programme is to promote tourism to and within authentic original local communities, actively participating with the inhabitants in everyday actions and activities with our clients, but at the same time ensuring that there is respect and consideration from visitors. It is with this in mind that Darwin’s Trails has created a benchmark for visitors to know ahead of time the degree of contact and involvement with local people that a certain tour or excursion may have. All Darwin’s Trails tours and excursions are now benchmarked in this way.
1 - 2 / Slight Contact: Mainly used for transfers with local drivers and guides.
3 - 4 / Good Contact: Tours or excursions such as horse-trekking, walks, etc. In company of local people maybe also be the enjoying of locally prepared food, seeing local handicrafts, experiencing local music and dance traditions…
5 / Deep Contact: Sharing a living experience by staying and sharing with a family their home and routine while enjoying excursions. Secondly, our CO2 Footprint is an important issue for which we have taken action! We want to offset our responsibility of the impact that may cause our actions as a company, and our clients’ actions and decisions in an environmental context. With this in mind, Darwin’s Trails has set the goal, to reduce these negative impacts on the environment as a result of passenger transport, energy consumption and waste production that inevitably is left by every tourist each year by planting native trees close to Valparaiso and Puerto Montt. For every overseas client Darwin’s Trails will be planting one native tree. |
